It seems just yesterday that they Hayling Ferry went back in to service but it is in fact now more than three years since the Pride of Hayling Ferry went back into service. The Hayling Ferry is operated by Baker Trayte Marine and is run by Managing Skipper (and now local legend) Colin Hill.

What is The Hayling Ferry Trust? 

The Hayling Ferry Trust is a Community body working independently to support a Ferry service between Hayling Island and Eastney, Portsmouth.The Trust supports lobbying for other public transport services to link to the Ferry both sides of Langstone Harbour. Limited funding assistance for the ferry service may be available to maintain a basic year round timetable during periods where otherwise the service would not run.

How are donations to The Hayling Ferry Trust spent?

The Ferry operator's  aim is to operate on a profitable basis year round, but initially the Trust may be needed to co-ordinate some financial assistance during the Winter months. 

How often will donations be required?

The Trust will periodically consider fundraising through various platforms, and other promotions, to support the aims of the Trust.

Who are the Ferry operators?
The Hayling Ferry is operated by Baker Trayte Marine Ltd - a marine service company established in 1993 and based in Portsmouth. Baker Trayte specialise in marine construction and associated services such as marine piling, pontoon construction and workboat hire. 

 

The Ferry operator is licensed by Langstone Harbour Board to operate a ferry service in Langstone Harbour between the LHB pontoons on the Eastney and Hayling sides of Langstone Harbour.

 

The Ferry boat, ‘Pride of Hayling‘ is fully licensed by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to carry up to 64 passengers on this route. The vessel was fully refurbished in 2015 and has been further modified in 2016 to offer improved passenger comfort on the new service.

What is the function of the Langstone Harbour Board?
The Langstone Harbour Board is a Statutory Harbour Authority, set up in 1962, and run under the auspices of Portsmouth City Council and Havant Borough Council,  to manage Langstone Harbour for the benefit of the two communities.
The Board operates as a ‘not for profit’ cost recovery organisation.


The Board’s main functions are:

  • Navigational & safety functions, including the provision of navigation marks, removal of wrecks and other conservancy functions

  • Regulation of activities, including the movement of vessels and the laying of moorings, by means of byelaws, licences and harbour directions  

  • The provision of a Pilotage service

  • The prevention of pollution


The Board has authorised and agreed a licence fee directly with Baker Trayte Ltd for the use of the LHB Pontoons and the operation of a ferry service in Langstone Harbour.
